ZTE Secures Largest Share in China Mobile's TD-CMMB Phone Purchase Tender; Unveils ZTE-ZAPP Contract Value
November 19, 2010
Following the earlier announcement made by China Mobile that the company would purchase 12 types of CMMB (China Multiple Mobile Broadband)-enabled TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) supplied by eight companies, ZTE is said to have secured the largest share of the tender and will supply three types of TD-CMMB phones to China Mobile, dubbed the U232, the U235B, and U722, with the combined share of 25.62% and shipment volume of 1.58 million units. Financial details of the contract, however, were not yet disclosed.

Meanwhile, following the announcement of the agreement signed by ZTE and ZAPP, a Portugal-based mobile operator, under which ZTE would supply network equipment and services based on WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and CDMA2000 EVDO (Evolution Data Only) Rev. B to ZAPP, ZTE recently revealed the value of the contract, the SinoCast Daily Business Beat News reported. The size of the contract is valued at 30 million euro (US$42.9 million; US$1 = 0.7 euro). Should the 3.5GHz WiMAX network be successfully launched by mid-2011 as planned, the network will be capable of providing a 40Mbps data transmission speed in major cities such as Lisbon and Porto in Portugal. Under the deal, ZTE will help ZAPP upgrade its currently 450MHz CDMA network to CDMA 2000 EVDO Rev.B. Meanwhile, as part of the contract, ZTE will also help ZAPP build an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network, whereby allows the latter to provide VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services to its WiMAX/EVDO users, according again to the SinoCast Daily Business Beat News.
